When to Elope in Breckenridge

Summer

Summer will have the best temperatures and the most opportunity for outdoor activities like hiking, off roading, fishing, and canoeing.

Fall

Fall has chillier temperatures and great views of golden aspens from mid September to early October. Grab a seasonal beer at one of the local breweries to celebrate!

Winter

Winter offers plenty of activities for the cold-weather lovers including skiing, snowshoeing, dog-sledding, horse-drawn sleigh rides, etc. Keep in mind that winter in Breckenridge is anywhere from November to early May!

I always recommend choosing a weekday (Monday-Thursday) for your Breckenridge elopement as it is one of the busiest places in Colorado all year round and the best way to beat the crowds!

Where to Elope in Breckenridge, Colorado

I’m not going to sugar coat it: Breckenridge is an extremely popular destination all year round. Because of the crowds and the influx of elopements in the area, Ranger Districts and the Forest Service are starting to change up some of the rules regarding elopements and weddings.

What does that mean for you? Basically, it means that some of the more popular locations you see on Instagram, Google, TikTok (cough cough Blue Lakes) will be banning elopements soon.

Luckily, there are so many locations in Breckenridge where you can get married for free (under around 10 people total) and you won’t be sharing the spot with crowds of tourists. Here are just a few locations in Breckenridge, but keep in mind that all booked couples receive my location guide with hidden gems and lesser-known spots in the area!

Boreas Pass

Boreas Pass is a graded dirt road that connects Breckenridge with the small town of Como. It offers access to alpine meadows, aspen groves, and sweeping mountain vistas. The pass is especially stunning in the fall when the aspen leaves turn golden—but that’s also when it’s busiest.

Still, there are plenty of spots off the pass to have your romantic and intimate elopement!

Wildflower Fields

During mid to late July, Breckenridge and surrounding high alpine areas are teeming with gorgeous wildflowers. Many of these locations are accessible by a 4x4 drive, so no hike required!

Lake Dillon

Lake Dillon is a large reservoir that spans from Breckenridge throughout neighboring Summit County towns including Frisco and Dillon. Lake Dillon offers gorgeous views of mountains, forests, and water. There are areas all around the lake where you can get married, including a few that can be reserved if you have guests.

During the summer, you can charter a sailboat or take out a canoe or paddleboard from one of the local marinas!

Loveland Pass

Loveland Pass is a high-mountain pass located outside of Keystone and is accessible year round. Pass Lake is most accessible from July to November and provides gorgeous lake and peak views.

Since it is so accessible, it’s also a hot spot for elopements, so I always recommend a weekday sunrise elopement to avoid the crowds.

Waterfalls

Summit County is also home to quite a few gorgeous waterfalls, if you know where to look :)

If you want to visit a waterfall for your elopement, I recommend early summer (early July to late mid August) when they are flowing the most from the winter snow runoff.
